I took the opportunity last week to do some Outdoor Training in lieu of Stair Training!
Basically – I went on a Hike!
I went to Veteran Acres Park in Crystal Lake, IL
This is a beautiful park, it’s hard to limit the photos to just a few!
The trails were rated “Moderate”, and I would agree that sections of the trail are challenging due to the trail surface quality, but the majority of the walking was fairly easy. Some locations offered challenging footing due to slope and tree roots, other trails have not been groomed so have more wash-out.
Signs? We don’t need no stinking signs…
There were very few signs, this is one example!
I made the mistake of not getting a good map printed out, I think I spend 1/4 of my time looking at the gps on my phone and backtracking to get on the correct trail. Unfortunately I was under a bit of a time constraint and concerned with getting lost in the woods! In all, it took me 1:24 to walk 2.4 miles!
If you go, refer to a good map such as the one from AllTrails: Link
Nothing “Ugly” to report, just the frustration in my lack of navigation skills!
I ended up accidentally heading out of the park into a neighboring bicycle trails. The mosquitoes on the bike trail drove me back into the park!
What other trails around Chicago are worth visiting?
