I just want to take a few minutes to highlight one of the friends in the area who I’ve come to know through my Nordic Walking classes and clients.
Erica Hornthal at Chicago Dance Therapy is celebrating a new space in Northfield!
What is Dance/Movement Therapy?
According to the American Dance Therapy Association, dance/movement therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration of individuals.
In dance/movement therapy, movement is the therapeutic tool used to process feelings and emotions. The dance/movement therapist uses cues from her own body as well as from the client’s to create interventions in the therapeutic relationship.
Erica is a warm and loving licensed professional clinical counselor and board certified dance/movement therapist who I met through one of my walking participants.
Dance Therapy isn’t just physical, it isn’t a traditional “aerobics” or a “dance class”, but a way for individuals (and couples) to express themselves through movement. It can be beneficial for a variety of participants, including those who are unable or unwilling to participate in traditional methods of therapy.
And it’s fun!
Erica is one of those individuals who truely love what they do and bring that to work with them daily.
